Laser Marking Polycarbonate Plaques

Industry: Ad Specialty

Material: Polycarbonate

Type of Marking: Surface etch

Type of Laser: 50 W laser

Mark content: Text and Graphics

The dark material is cast acrylic and the clear material is polycarbonate. They were both marked with a 50 watt fiber laser at relatively high power (40 watts) and fast speed (40 Inches per second). As the plastic absorbs the laser light, it changes color and raises up a bit. That raising is called “foaming” and makes for a really nice affect. We have a marked cast acrylic plaque on the outside of the building at Jimani that has been outside in the sun for 14 years and it still looks beautiful.
