What is the Best Stainless Steel Marking System

Like so many marking applications there is no single answer to the question of what is the best system. There are a number of factors that make a marking system best suited to a given application including the application itself, volume, type of mark, marking method, and the environment that the system will be used in. To help you navigate the world of marking systems let’s look at some of those factors and how they can influence your choice of a stainless steel marking system.

Type of Mark

Stainless steel marking offers users a great degree of freedom is terms of what you can mark (text, logos, graphics, etc.) and the marking methods you can use to make your mark. In general, however, there are four main types of marking methods used when marking stainless steel. Stain marking, dark marking, ablation marking, and engraving are by far the most common stainless steel marking methods.

Each of the four types of marking methods can create a different type of mark. For example, a stain mark can be used to create colorful marks while engraving can create deep, long-lasting marks that stand up in even the harshest environments. Often various marking methods can be achieved with the same stainless steel marking system. Adjusting wattage, marking speed, and other marking factors can all impact the types of the mark that are achievable. Because of the huge range of specifications available on any given system it is recommended that you work with the manufacturer or another expert to determine what system and features will best meet your needs.

Other Factors That Can Influence System Choice

The volume of parts you will be marking, and the environment that you will be marking in are also big factors in choosing a stainless steel marking system. For some applications, a standalone system like a desktop fiber laser system is sufficient to meet the applications requirements.  For large volume applications or applications where the laser will need to be integrated into a larger manufacturing set up that type of laser might not be a viable option.
